scented candle, scented candles Generally, the only time I use scented candles is to freshen up the air when company is coming over. The other night, I had to light a scented candle to hide my botched dinner attempt before the roommates came home. I have complained enough times how bad it reeks in our apartment when my roommate cooks seafood so I knew he would  give me hell for making the place smell like a D-rated smokehouse after forgetting about some frying bratwursts. After they were just about done cooking, I got a call from my mom.

Being a Tuesday night around 7pm, I thought it would be something important. Really it was just to say Hi. Either way I left the kitchen and thought I had turned the burner to low to hold in the temp before eating. Like all mom conversations, it went on for twenty minutes. When I finally got off the phone and came into the kitchen, my bratwursts were black like soot and there was an awful burnt smell from the sizzling smoke. I didn’t turn the burner to low. Scented candles were my only option to clearing this mess. I lit a few up, opened the windows and fired up the vent fan but not before a roommate came home and said, “What the **ck is that smell.” What can you do? The smell went away within an hour though.
