Is there really a way to answer that question in a polite way given the truth is that we use scented candles to freshen our homes and eliminate any unpleasant odors? For instance I lit a scented candle in my bedroom last night and the hilarious truth is that I did so because of a sudden and terrible dog odor that burned my nostrils and threatened to make me gag. The price we pay for having beloved pets, I’m afraid. Yet for some reason when in polite society we don’t usually mention these things, which is silly when you think of it. I mean it’s not something I would talk about over dinner and I’m sorry if you are eating right now. However I believe in speaking plainly and I don’t mind telling you that I don’t like smelling these things so I do something about it. Hence I always have scented candles in my home. I also have bottles of air freshener spray handy. I like my person and my surroundings to smell pleasant and I believe that most of us do.

When I prepare for a romantic evening with my husband in the comfort of our home I use lots of candles. I like the ambiance that a candle gives my living space. My husband gets a clue very quickly about what the night is going to be about when he walks in the door to a dimly candle lit room.

I will make a light dinner with the foods my husband likes most and serve it to him at a well decorated dining room table. I like to use the good china and crystal to emphasize the occasion. I place a candle here and a candle there and then even more are scattered about the room. I find that to be such a romantic setting.

When the meal is done we may retire to the back porch for an after dinner cocktail. There on the porch we have a double sized well padded lounge chair. I will have placed and lit a candle on either side of the lounge chair as well as here and there in the back patio area. In the summer we go out to different places more and we spend a lot of time outdoors either gardening or swimming in the pool. I also use candles more in winter is that they make me feel comfortable by creating a warm and cozy ambience in my home while it is freezing cold outside. For instance right now I can see several feet of snow on the ground outside each time I look out of the picture window in my living room. It is a medium sized two bedroom apartment with comfortable sleeping for 2 maybe 3 people on the couches. After heading out to the local bars and scarffing down some of the best BBQ chicken pizza I’ve ever had from a brewery with an exceptional stout for just four dollars we hailed a cab and made our way back to the apartment.

We had met up with a couple who’d driven up to meet us so now the count was six people trying to find a place to sleep around the living room.I crashed right on the carpet, my buddy found refuge in the closet, the couple took the couch, one dude fell asleep sitting on a love seat and another shared a bed with one of the people who lived there. Needless to say it smelled bad in the morning. Luckily scented candles were nearby and after an hour the place was smelling less like a locker room. I found the candle shown here that is made from vegetable wax, and since I was in the market for new candles, I bought several of the Toasted Vanilla Scented Candle. It's been scented with toasted vanilla beans and the wick is 100% cotton, so it's a totally green (although white) candle.

We are trying to do what we can to minimize our carbon footprint but don't want to have to sacrifice the quality of life that we are used to, but with vegetable wax candles, there is no sacrifice, so by burning these candles, we'll have the best of all worlds. We love to burn candles around the house, even during the day when we're working. The aroma from the burning candles does a lot to mellow our mood and we get more work done.

It goes without saying that the candles are wonderful at night, too, especially when it's cold and windy outside and we want to have a cozy atmosphere inside. We live in Phoenix and have no burn days when we can't use the fireplace inside or out because the air pollution is too high, so lighting a big arrangement of candles gives us almost the same effect. I have found that by simply adding a few coyly placed scented candles around the dinner table and on the kitchen counter, I can easily set the mood, adding that pungent aroma that only scented candles can do when they are burning, and, of course, the romantic flickering of the flames as they really create that ambiance for our special night. There have been many of these great nights, which are usually followed by a special bubble bath for two, where the lights are dimmed, and scented candles are strategically placed around the tub. We just redecorated it and used a lot of earth tones in the furniture and flooring. We have some really nice candle holders that these tapers will be perfect for. I love having candles burning, especially during the cold winter months and these were a great buy online. They are called the Tapers Autumn Breeze, and even though spring is on the way, these colors are perfect in our family room. I try to light candles every night that we spend in the family room watching TV or movies because they cast such beautiful light on things. These come in a package of six, two of each color. There were beer cans all over the table from playing a lively game of Kings earlier in the morning. A couple slices of cooked pizza sat on the cardboard box it came in adjacent to the cook top and the trash was overflowing. To describe the smell, it was a mix of gym locker room, stale hops and supreme pizza. Not exactly a smell you would want to bottle. Taking the first trash bag to the shoot and then another, the place was well on its way to looking clean again. A couple table and counter top wipe downs, straightening up the coffee table and there we go a clean apartment once again. The trouble was it still smelled bad.

 I slid open the glass door and grabbed a lighter for the scented candles. Scented candles are the real savior after a party. Some people go with aerosol can scents but I like to go with the flickering flame from a scented candle. They create a relaxing vibe after a long night and do a fantastic job at making a place smell livable again.

There are six votive candles in it and two candle holders. I know she loves to burn candles and take long soaking baths, and I love the box that this comes in, so I ordered it. It should be delivered by next week and I know she'll be touched by it. She has been training for a marathon that she completed about 10 days ago and her time was great. That's my excuse, anyway, for spending half an hour today away from my computer and work. When we have winter storms, the days are dark and I didn't want to be searching in the dark for the candles that I'll light around sunset anyway, just to have a warm and cozy atmosphere in the house for everyone when they get home.

The candle that will be the tallest on the tray is one that I just got. Looking out the window right now, I don’t hear the heavy rain anymore but that may be because the cloud above ran out of precipitation. The deluge has wreaked havoc on cliffside buildings now evacuated for fear of being lost in mudslides. With all the wet weather the roommates along with myself have been coming in and out sloppy wet. You know that smell when denim gets drench. It has sort of taken over our place.

To thwart these not so attractive smells, one of the roommates took it upon herself to light the scented candles. I will be home for most of today so leaving the wicks burning is safe. Scented candles really do a great job at cleaning up tough to deal with smells. I have learned the power of candles ever since living with a girl.
